What am I doing?
Hello!
As my inquiry project, I will be exploring the task of learning to play the keyboard. The reason I have chosen this inquiry is because I have attempted to learn the keyboard six different times in my lifetime. A little embarrassing, I know. With all these attempts, I only remember three chords. Why have I failed to learn so many times? I hate practicing instruments that I do not already know how to play. I have played guitar since I was eight, and I practice constantly because it is very familiar. Piano, on the other hand, I give up after about a week. Every. Single. Time. I call it “piano procrastination” and it has been the downfall of my dream of being the next Beethoven.
I feel attempt number seven will be the golden opportunity because I will finally be kept accountable through this blog! I will be forced to practice due to the knowledge that this blog will be read by other people and I refuse to embarrass myself weekly on the internet.
I believe that learning the keyboard will be beneficial for my teaching career, as it is a tool I can use in class. I also subscribe to the science behind music being great for the brain, but I will share more on that next week!
How will I do it?
I will accomplish this task by using YouTube videos other and free online resources. I will attach these to my posts each week to ensure others have access to follow along. Along with this, I will be documenting my weekly practice times and suggesting any tips for folks out there who also wish to learn the keyboard.
I would also like to use this project as an opportunity to explore multiple formats, especially video. I am planning to record bits and pieces of the process so that I can improve my video-making and editing skills.
See you next week!
